Obsolete as it went into production.
Obsolescence was not it's biggest problem! It was technologically way ahead of its time, it was not obsolete, it's designed flight parameters were obsolete. It was proven though that the aircraft could do low level high speed penetration mission. The problem was that the aircraft was a maintenance nightmare. Accident rate was also high. The mission is what killed the XB-70 as well. The B-58 kept the opposition on it's toes.

Contrarily to the B-58, by 1966, the same era and profile Mirage IV was adapted to the low level nuclear strike up to 1996, which required switching from the nice silver finish to the dull grey and green cammo. It soldiered for the strategic recon role up to 2006.

once the mission went away, so did the rationale for the plane. It was not adaptable, similar to a one trick pony. Thus obsolete.
