Yep................................Took a long time for you guys to realise a jet engine runs better on JP4 and not coal. The FAA? I doubt they'd have a say. Luckily our combat jets are a bit more environmentally-friendly now. Even the military has a part to play in saving the planet
We ain't never run coal, well maybe coal oil but none o' coal. We save that fer the young'us stock'ns!Yep................................Took a long time for you guys to realise a jet engine runs better on JP4 and not coal.
The KC-97 is at top speed and the fighters are just above stall speed.
I agree even with 4 turning and 2 burning it would always be an "interesting" hook up!The KC-97 is at top speed and the fighters are just above stall speed.
Yeah the KC-97 had two jets installed to help and it didn't help much. The 97 goes into a shallow dive at top speed and the 106 is barely getting enough air over that delta wing and the more fuel she get the heavier she gets and the more airspeed she needs! The PACAF tactical fighter had the same issue with the KB-50's.The KC-97 is at top speed and the fighters are just above stall speed.
F9F-8 Cougars (VF-61 / CVG-8) embarked on USS Intrepid (CVA 11) - 1956I like this shot of F9F's at a time when the Navy was repainting its aircraft from Blue to Gray/White. These to show aircraft of the same squadron in both paint schemes.

I admit that my first thought was 'why', as in, why spend the time converting it in the first place. This color shot of a F3D is interesting to me for the 3 wheeled FWD 24V Generator cart shown. We had one of these still in use at NAS Pensacola in the late 1970's, converted from a standard Jeep with rear wheel steering & Front wheel drive. I had forgotten all about it.
