When I see a Drover, it always reminds me of the Aussie TV show "Flying Doctors" back in the late 1950's/early 1960's.
I like the look of that "stretched" Heron - first time I've seen one.

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Number 23 (City of Brisbane) Squadron operated DE Havilland Vampires out of RAAF Amberley. Once 23SQN became a non-flying unit, one of these Vampires (A79-440) was mounted near the old front gate (across from the guardroom as a project managed by FLTLT Michael Bryce (ex-Governor General's husband). With an ever expanding base, the Vampire was taken down and sold off to free up development. History & Heritage Branch - Air Force (HH-AF) re-acquired the airframe in 2020 and commenced restoration to static display under WOFF Paul Wendt and his team of volunteers from the HH-AF Restoration Support Section.

Vampire A79-440 has been painted to represent SQNLDR Tonkin's personal aircraft at 23 Squadron. SQNLDR Ernest William Tonkin OBE was a WW2 and Korean war veteran, flying in numerous theatres and reaching the rank of AIRCDRE before discharging in 1977. On the 9th January 1956 he was appointed Commanding Officer of No. 23 Squadron at RAAF Base Amberley, leading the Squadron until the 7th of April 1958. On the 1st February 1957 it was identified that an association of present and ex-members of 23SQN should be formed to preserve the comradeship and friendship established during service. SQNLDR Ernest Tonkin was promptly voted in as the first President of the 23SQN Association.

C-141B. As I recall they did all the stretching and added A/R and than it would seem that they pulled ten more years and the C-17 blew the 141B away.

C-141As built 1963-68.
Entered service 1965.
C-141B conversion program ran 1977-1982 (270 converted).
C-141B flight conservation program began 1992 (flight hours reduced).
C-141C program of 1990s updated 63 aircraft with new avionics & partial "glass cockpit" ending in 2001.
C-141 removed from active USAF squadrons 2004.
USAFR C-141Bs flew missions to Iraq & Afghanistan, usually Medivac.
C-141 retired 2006 - C-141C "Hanoi Taxi" flew last C-141 mission 6 May 2006.

C-141A "Hanoi Taxi" (AF Serial Number 66-0177) was the first aircraft to land in North Vietnam in 1973 for Operation Homecoming - returning US POWs to the US. It was upgraded as C-141B then as C-141C.
