I think just because they were looking for food is no reason to call them pigs. Rather harsh I'd say.

There will continue to be stories like this for many years to come as all the buried war hardware gets dug up or surfaces on its own.

They had to destroy the whole weapon?? Holy crap, render any ammo inert, and clean that bad boy up!!! Even if the farmer isn't a history buff, I'm sure he could've scored major brownie-points (or cash, if so inclined) from donating to a museum or selling to a collector.
