Polish pilot

Can anyone identify the Polish pilot wounded in the head during an engagement, who then landed his aircraft and walked to a hospital to get treatment? I am trying to obtain further info from my end. There is a photograph of the man (which I have not seen) in the cockpit of a one-place machine, presumably a fighter (a PZL?).
