Question About Hellcat Wing Lights

Hi,

I'm working on a Hellcat model for the X-Plane flight simulator.

One question is whether the navigation lights on the wings of WW2 planes like this flashed or were just steady lights. The image, taken in 1943, at the link below clearly shows a light. But did it flash like modern wing lights do?
