Okay, I've resisted Buying more stuff...... till yesterday, I caved, Dam.

I've got a Davidson who flew 200+ missions in an F-4-IIB off carriers during the Viet Nam thingy, the reason for bidding.
, only 10 bucks!

I went to an IPMS swap and auction. Sometimes I have a hard time understanding Aussies when old and mumbly, thru a dodgey mic, in a hall with lots of noise and sitting too bl00dy far from the stage. So this one came up, didn't know it was 1/48th (I don't have the room for it) and also didn't hear, or see, it was a C/D version.

So then I thought I could build an Aussie Viet Nam version. I have since found RAAF flew the E version.

QUESTION; What is the main outward differences in the USAF C/D and the RAAF "E" planes? If I can modify this one I will put it on display at the HARS museum when I start work on the model displays!

***Oh, and does anyone know of a significant Aussie F-4 pilot for a story???????

Flying with United States forces

A Phantom F4-D in flight over Vietnam in 1971. Distinguished by the rondels of the RAAF and the United States Air Force, this aircraft was flown by an RAAF pilot, Flight Lieutenant Lindsay Naylor, who was attached to the United States' 389th Tactical Fighter Squadron. Only six Australians flew operations in United States aircraft of this type during the war, some of them over Laos and North Vietnam, even though Australian personnel were not authorised to operate outside South Vietnam. The war was winding down by the time Naylor began operational flying with United States forces but he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his role in a hazardous ground-support mission over a fire support base outside Pleiku in April 1971.

****So now I can build This one as shown and put it in the museum with the story!!!!!! wahooo I just need to find all the sticks hanging underneath it.

Better buy some eye-plugs too Wayne.

You guys wanted some more shots of the F4U so I took some. They're not fancy as I haven't taken anything out of their bags yet, but it'll give you an idea.























As you can see, they seem to have also made provisions for having the wings clipped, so I imagine we'll see an FAA version of the kit. FAA Birdcages didn't have clipped wings, so they don't provide you with finished clipped tips in this kit.
 
Precisely. Basically the big differences between the Mustang kit and this one is they've simplified things a bit. The landing gear is up or down, you can't swap it out. The gun bays are also closed, and it doesn't come with the .50s. The wings are also an either/or setup, they're either folded or they're not. You can pose the control surfaces as you wish, however they've done away with the rod system and you must glue them in place, which is almost what you had to do anyway with previous kits. I don't mind, but some people will. The wings in particular I don't think would have adequate strength if they were posable.
