It is the old 1/32 Hase kit. I think it stands up very well considering it's age. The newer kits may be a little more detailed and have better fit,but they do have their inaccuracies. The only p-51 kit that seems to be almost perfect is the 1/32 Tamiya, but it is at least $100 or more. It is 3 times the cost of this one. It will build up very well with a little patience and elbow grease

Cheers mate...my mistake. The box art and format looked very similar to the Fujimi 1:48 kit boxing from memory! Googling it shows they are close but not the same :)

Cheers for the info re the kit comparison anyway :thumbright:

I had to look twice also Evan.
The old Hasegawa 1/32nd scale kit is actually older than most people think, being one of the few kits in this scale originally released by Frog, and then acquired by Hasegawa when Frog ... er... hopped it (I know, I know!).
Overall, it's not too bad, especially considering the era when it was first produced, when such detail was unheard of. It annoys me though that Hasegawa are still pumping out this and other old kits at 'modern' prices, when they should really be around £15, not the £40 or more demanded for the latest re-issues.
It does need a bit of effort in the cockpit though, where the seat and control column can be thrown in the spares box for a start, but, apart from that, and the rather wide cockpit area when viewed from above (a common error in P-51D kits of all scales at one time), it makes into a nice model and looks like a P-51D.
Which reminds me - I must clean and repair my example!

You've gotta stop hanging out with those hippocrocofrogs Terry, they're starting to get to ya man! :)

Re that boxart, it wouldn't surprise me if it was the same artist. They are really very similar in pose and style.

Happened to me again today. Got an email about another sale on at Squadron. Went there and put some stuff into my cart - very attractive pricing on 3 Eduard kits (4 actually as one was the dual combo Dora 11/13 kit for just $55). Total order came to 95 bucks but when I got down to the shipping quote, the cheapest choice was $55.

Screw that.

Andy, I use Aaron's Hobbies | Your Neighborhood Hobby Shop Online! for ordering kits on line and they work through Amazon. If Amazon actually has the kit, and they do keep some in stock you pay no shipping on order above $25.00. And Aaron's is good about shipping multiple models at one low shipping rate when Amazon does not have them.

Aaron's does not ship outside the U.S. so that puts us Canucks and any Non U.S. buyer out of the picture.

These arrived today, to replace the SNJ Polishing Powder I've had for over 20 years. The SNJ product (shown at right) is now discontinued but, having discovered via a Police friend that the SNJ powder is exactly the same as Aluminium powder used for finger printing, I got these - larger volume, and about half the price, per tub, of the original SNJ price 20+ years ago!
Should keep me sorted for bare metal finishes for some time methinks - unless I sneeze when the tub is opened, which results in 'Instant Silver Room'!

Awaiting the first trial Terry.

Just had a quick test and it is exactly the same stuff as used and described in my Bare Metal guide. Got a few bare metal projects planned, so should get some use in the not too distant future.

Do I for see another AVG bird in the current group build?

I did not seem to see one,but I am doing this one as we speak, but did not enter it due to deadline. Ordered these for it in this scheme. I wish I could find some good top view pics. Also got this 1/32 Trump p-47 and p-38. I wanted to get better pics ,but had to put them in the stash before the wife saw them. You know what I am talking about.

I really want to try that stuff, but I am afraid that I would not only cover the plane but everything else in the house

So Terry, if one does not have a "police friend", where does one get this stuff?

Yep, the minute shipments step over the 49th parallel, the prices get ridiculous, if they ship at all. Another example is getting a sheet of decals from Eagle Editions. These would easily fit into a 4x8" envelope and the shipping cost is 7 bucks for one sheet of decals.
