Don't confuse postage rates with hidden profit enhancers guys. If you order something from an on-line store, I'm sure they give you a rock bottom price on the product and then hide the profit in "shipping costs". I absolutely stopped going to Squadron for this reason as they were clearly out to bilk us foreigners. Canada Post is not that unreasonable for parcel shipments so what Terry experienced was clearly additional mark-up.
 
The actual postage charges from Canada were reasonable, for the size of the parcel - around £12 or £14 I think.
The 'rip off' was Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs not using their eyes, or brain cells, and reading $32.50 Canadian Dollars (the value of the kit), as £3,250 British Pounds, and charging VAT (20% tax) on that sum at £328.26 - which, if you check the calculation, is still wrong !!
 
Just arrived from Hannant's - a couple of days late (Royal Mail again !), but very welcome.
I managed to catch their half-price special offer, before it ended the following day, and got the "Ready for Battle" set at £14.99, which is great value. As individual kits, with the two vehicles, Hurricane, and ground crew, it would total around £40, so a great way to get one of the new Airfix Hurricanes at less than retail price, and a bonus with the diorama accessories !
The white, 1/72nd scale decals are for use as Werke Nr on 1/48th scale Luftwaffe subjects.

The smallest numbers on this sheet (also available in black), are still slightly too large for a 1/48th scale Bf109 Geo. I'll be using them on Bf110s and a He111, which, depending on factory, used larger, white numbers.
Some of the very small scale 'wargames' decals, used for tank turret numbers, might do the job, and I've used some on a Ju-88 (the sheet also includes swastika flags, useful for 'kill' markings), but I'd have to check the actual size, and if they're still available.
I'll be making my own decals for all the Bf109 Wk. Nr, as I have in the past. Once the typeface is selected, and the number created, it's imported into a 'Word' document, reduced to the required size, and then duplicated a couple of times to make spares. The resolution and density is not great in this tiny size, but, being so small, it's not really noticeable once on the model.
I need to find the notes I made on which typeface I used for what, so I get the correct (or near as dammit) size.
A method I used years ago, before I had a computer and printer, was to use a fine 'Rotaring' draughting pen and black ink, and 'draw' the numbers onto clear decal sheet. The results, of course, are only as good as your ability to write small characters neatly and consistently, but again, being so small in this scale, once on the model, they're acceptable, and better than an empty space.
Of course, there might be suitable numbers available for Bf109 W.Nr. in smaller scales, such as 1/144th, but I haven't checked that area yet.
 
I agree - a useful sheet would include, say, two sizes, for bomber, Bf110 and Bf109, for example, in black and in white, and could combine two or three scales on one sheet.
BTW, those 'war games' tank numbers are 1/285th scale, and still available from Microscale. Numbers are 'solid' and also in outline, in black, white and i think red, and the sheet also include the tiny swastika flags (red background, white disc, black swastika) as well as black crosses.
The numbers are a tad too big for 1/48th scale Bf109s (but OK for Ju88, He-111 etc), and just about acceptable for 1/32nd scale '109s. The flags and crosses, as mentioned, can be used as 'kill' markings in both scales, depending on the size of the real example being modelled.
There are some 1/144th scale numbers decals at Hannant's which I think could be used for W.Nr for 1/48th scale Bf109s, although I haven't yet checked the sizes - I'll check over the weekend, as I could certainly use them on the eight Bf109Es I have to build for my BoB collection, as well as on a couple of other 109 types.
 
A few days ago and woman I work with sent me a PM on Facebook after seeing some of my model aircraft pictures. Her husband, who I used to work with at the Police Department is a collector of mostly railroad stuff but she said he had a few model aircraft he was looking to dispose of to make more room for choochoo trains.

Anyhow I said I was interested so I went by his place today and came away with an Airfix 1:24 Hurricane, a HobbyCraft 1:48 Avro CF-100 Canuck, and three 1:72 scale aircraft, HobbyCraft CT-114 Tutor, HobbyCraft DHC Otter and AMT Spitfire.

In addition when I got home and opened the Hurricane to have a look, there inside was an out of the box but complete Monogram 1:48 B-24J Liberator model.

I will keep the Hurricane, the CF-100 and the B-24.

I have no interest in the 1:72 scale stuff but if you do, drop me PM me and I will send it/them to you.

FYI, I am leaving for a vacation on Sunday for 1 week. My wife and I are taking our grand-daughter to sit in the sand and soak up the sun in Varadaro Cuba so if you express interest in the 1:72 stuff I won't get it out to you for a couple of weeks.

If there are no takers I will donate the stuff to our local Value Village thrift store.
