Geo, the Hobbycraft '109s are pretty good, even by today's standards. I have two of their E-4s now, plus an E-3, and a Academy boxing of the G-6.
Some of their kits were a bit 'iffy' fit wise, but those I've built so far, such as the Sea Fury and Ju-88, have been fine, and the '109s appear to fit well, after test-fiting one kit.
 
The Hobby craft 109s actually fit rather well, it's just the radiator under the cowling is not quite right/half missing. But if you can get past that, it's actually nice.

Oh FYI, the horizontal stab struts are slightly too long, so I just filled in the locating hole and filed off the pin and glued it flush.
 

Check that. The radiator shape isn't that bad off (was thinking of the Pegasus kit) but you will still have to open up the back end of it.

I'm guessing you mean the oil cooler under the nose? It also needs the 'splitter plate' in the forward aperture. Also, I think the tail-plane leading edge 'sweep' might be slightly off, but acceptable, but I'd have to check this against scale plans.
As these kits will be used as part of a collection of 28 models in total, for the BoB 'Hardest Days', I'm not too bothered about slight inaccuracies, as any such would have to be inspected really closely, which isn't going to happen once they're arranged in the cabinet.
 

Yessir. I have also been using the the prop from the Hobbycraft kits to replace the skinny little one that comes with the otherwise superb Airfix Emils, as they are alittle more accurate. Maybe one day I'll buckle down and just get AM replacements instead of swapping them out.
 
I built the Hobbycraft 109K and have several other versions in the stash. They are a nice kits although not up to the standard of Tamiya but have a very basic cockpit. I'll try to post a picture of The "K" when I get home tonight.
 
I agree Glenn, but at a third of the price, I'm happy.
And yes Andy, Hobbycraft would never win awards for their box art !!

The Airfix '109E kit could have been great, but slightly spoiled by incomplete research. Apart from the narrow-chord prop, which isn't too bad once painted and installed, the oleos are extended, and the 'E-4' canopy is wrong. The kit was modelled off the RAF Museum example, which has a replacement canopy from a 'G' or 'Buchon', as the original went missing, and the aircraft is now on jacks, tail high, which means the oleos have extended !
A couple of simple questions at the time of measuring etc would have avoided this, but overall it's a nice kit, especially for the price.
 
Picked these up in PG today. Buddy, whom I've started two mining jobs with mentioned that the Lancaster was his favorite aircraft. Terry(Airframes) was kind enough to offer code letters for his initial, AS•D which are appropriately enough Lancaster codes.



I've been searching for a Spitfire Mk.I to go with my other Spit from 57OTU. Lo and behold, this Airfix version contains the decals.



If anyone want to see the innards let me know and I'll post them.
