The one under everybody's noses. As Wojtek Matusiak has said "probably never captioned correctly". BL479 was not a LF.V. SZ codes were also used by Northolt Wing and Station HQs. BL479 was "owned" by G/Cpt M.W.S.Robinson, Northolt Station Commander, which explains the showroom finish and lack of any chessboards.

BL479 was a Spitfire VB L.F with clipped wings which, with the low blown Merlin 45 or 50 series engine, produced a fighter mediocre above 20.000 feet, but formidable at low level. It was one of a batch of 1000 built at Castle Bromwich in 1941. Clipped-wing L.F.Mk.V with codes SZ-X, s/n BL479, No.316 Squadron
