I just saw on the BBC news that Geoffrey Wellum has left us.

A good innings of 96, but he will be sadly missed nonetheless.

And you couldn't wish to meet a nicer gent. He was straightforward and unsentimental but remained incredibly humble. He was capable of articulating in detail, and in the most evocative and stirring language, his experiences. He will be greatly missed by anyone who knew him...and hopefully he'll be remembered by a great many more.

If you haven't read his book "First Light" do so. In fact, buy a copy and keep it on your shelf. IMHO there is no better BoB memoir.
 
A very sad day, I heard the news this morning, his memories of training and service in the Battle of Britain were the memories of a teenager. Rest in Peace Sir.
