I'm trying to determine if VF-17 was awarded the greatest number of victories while flying the F4U-1. The figures I have are 152 victories scored between Oct '43 and March '44.
However VMF-221 scored some 185 victories between Feb '43 and Jan '44, but unlike VF-17 didn't begin combat operations with the Corsair (flying Wildcats until May '43).
So, which one was more successful flying the "bent-wing bird"?
