A tip for very hot weather - don't buy Camembert !
It'll melt into a glutinous pool before it reaches a fridge, and stink out the whole place.
Ask me how I know ..................

During summer here, temps can easily reach 105° (40C) or more - it was 113° (45C) last Saturday.

If I plan on getting something at the store that is not heat friendly, I take an ice pack and a cooler along so the item(s) will survive the trip home.

Thought No.1 - we're hoping to do the XXX Corps route from Belgium to Arnhem sometime next summer, if you fancy joining up with us ?
Thought No.2 - I see you're now in Cambridgshire. The Tin Tent is just outside Diss, Norfolk, just about an hours drive from, say ,Cambridge itself, if you ever fancy popping over for a "barby" and beers at a time when I'm there ?

Hey Terry, sorry for not responding. Wasn't ghosting you...just life getting in the way. My goal for next summer is to hit the Western Front again. We'd planned to do it this September but...well, "life" again. So we're postponing it to next year, probably late May.

A trip to Diss does sound rather jolly. Haven't been out that way much since my time at Honington in the early '90s. Happy times!

Karl, myself and our friend Mick will definitely be there on our return from Normandy - arriving back at the site on the evening of Friday, 5th September, so we'll be having a bit of hooley on the Saturday evening/night (6th September).
Let me know if you can make it, and we'll cater accordingly.

I'm heading off back to the Tin Tent again tomorrow morning, and it'll be the first time I've had a chance to "properly" drive my new Hyundai Tuscon hybrid, so looking forward to it, even though it may be a tiring 200 mile drive (approx. 4 hours).
I'm not sure yet if I'll get "out and about", as it depends on my physical mobility, but we'll see.

I will be doing further tidying and "tweaks" to the Tin Tent set-up, ready for our start-point for the Normandy trip, commencing 31st August, and I'll try to get some decent pics of the new car against suitable backgrounds.
I'll be away about 7 to 8 days, and then home to attend to domestic stuff, and final prep for Normandy. I'll post up-dates of anything of interest, internet connection allowing.

However, I've been delayed. The weather here at the moment is horrendous, being windy and with very heavy rain (over most of my route).
I'd get soaked to the skin just going out to the car and, as I'm already rather stiff and aching, I didn't fancy a 4 hour drive (especially in a new, unfamiliar car), so I've postponed the journey until tomorrow.

A wise move Terry. I could quote that old saying "It never rains but..........................." but I wont. Typical English summer weather though, soaked by rain one day and then sweating under a blazing sun the next.

Yep, very true.
You know when it's summer in Macclesfield, as the rain is slightly warmer !!
Leaving in about 90 minutes, when the rain will ease off a bit, and it'll be about 17C. Should arrive at the Tin Tent around 18:00, with the forecast there showing sun and around 22C, with the weather set to be sunny and between 22 to 24C all week.

Great stuff Terry. Glad you're on the road again and I'll look forward to seeing your pics and updates. I just got back from my cruise around the British Isles. Our last stop was in Le Havre where we caught a bus for a somewhat rushed visit to Arramanches, the Canadian Cemetery at Beny-Sur-Mer and the Juno Beach Centre. Would love to go back someday and take more time in the area.

Happy to report that the new car performed effortlessly, and is a joy to drive.
It's got so many gizmos, thingamys and doodahs, with a computer whatsit that seems to know everything, that I've decided to nickname it "Hal", after the "brain" in the movie "2001 - a Space Odyssey" !!

Resting today, as fairly stiff after the long drive, but I hope to post some pics sometime tomorrow.

Looking at next year (September), and driving the XXX Corps route up to Arnhem. Planning to meet up with Marcel and Sander, and with luck, Sander will get us into some areas of the Arnhem commemoration, including the airfield being used to mount the para drops.
(Sander is still serving in Dutch Airborne Forces).
