When I was a driller's helper in the first logging camp I worked in we would fill 3' tubes with AMEX, three to a hole with half a stick of dynamite....ka-freakin-boom. I also learned the hard way what a nitroglycerine headache felt like

We normally used AN and diesel and a half stick. Usually took out any stumps etc. With one our Irish powder monkey tried that twice without luck so stuck in three bags and a full stick. The stump came out but dad had to pay for some new windows on a few houses including ours. Overall everyone was happy though as we were excavating for the new community swimming pool on land next to our house and the whole clearing and excavation job was done as a freebee.

Had a friend that had a fire ant problem....He had 8 pounds of contaminated fast burning pistol powder that he slowly fed to the mound. Finally finished it all and grabbed a canister with what he thought was diesel....wasn't, it was JP-4. Let it soak in for a few minutes then lit a flare and stabbed it into the top of the mound and walked back to the house. When the smoke cleared and the dirt stopped falling, it took him about 5 yards of dirt to fill the hole back in. Never had a fire ant problem again on the property.

A guy at Vandenberg AFB got tired of the gophers tearing up the lawn at his Air Force provided house. So he poured a few gallons of gasoline down their holes and lit it.
Blew the concrete patio right out of the ground. Gophers had found that hard surface an excellent waterproof roof for their home. The guy had to pay for a new patio.

Got a friend who while stationed at Kadena AB had a shrew problem under a large tree in the front yard, oh did I mention he lived on Camp Butler (USMC). Poured a gallon of gas in the lair and lit it off. He said he found four other entrances as the flames shot out and the tree lifted several inches. Could hear the shrews screaming but never had a problem after, he went on to get a PhD and teaches college! Scary

In the last logging camp I worked in, the Superintendent left us in charge of the powder shack so that we could drill and blow up small rock protrusions in the logging roads. We went fishing instead...CIL wobblers. A wobbler is a fishing lure. CIL is a dynamite name....good times

Stung by those nasty little hornets that live in the ground. They stream flying out like machine gun bullets. Just as Bugs Bunny would, "This means war". I poured about a half pint of gasoline into the hole and lit it. A loud "Whumpf" and saw dozens of thin smoke trails through out the yard - end of hornet problem.

Could be. At my house in that area a project to remove and replace the shower stall with a new one revealed that the gophers had found the hole in the slab where the drain pipe penetrated was excellent for facilitating disposal of the dirt from their burrows. They had stuffed soil up under not only the shower stall but the bathtub and bathroom walls as well, up over foot high into the walls. That resulted in one of the soldered copper pipe junctions corroding and leaking just as I was about to put the finishing touches on my bathroom project. If you have such critters in your yard you need to take some kind of action to prevent that from occurring.
For moles I use the Doggie Poo in their tunnels approach. Seems to work.

In this neck of the woods, those were called "Hercules fishing lures".
By the way, never do that in a Valco fishing boat (they're all aluminum construction).
