It's -22 F, -6 C. It's predicted to stay like this for at least a week. I unburied my car that's in the lot after the snow but it is surrounded by glaciers. I want to get rid of it by giving it to my mechanic. That's one of the few things remaining to do in preparation for the Thailand move. I hate snow.

A layer of snow (about 6-7 inches, 15-18cm), plus a layer of sleet (about 1-2 inches, 2-8cm), followed by a later of frozen rain (1-2 inches, 2-8cm) making an interesting "layer cake" effect covers my area. It looks like frozen snow but walking on it creates bizzare "ice quake" sounds from middle-layer fracturing ice that ripples all across my yard and scares the dickens out of my dog, whom I have to walk in this mess. It got just above freezing today and melted a little which will refreeze tonight, putting an "icy icing" on the cake. I live in a rural area (West Tennessee) and all local roads are essentially impassible for all vehicles except 4-wheel drive or chains. Everthing is shut down, including Churches, schools, banks, retail establishments, and all government offices in this area. (The Walmart in a neaby town is OPEN for limited hours during the day. Walmart would stay open during a nuclear war, I belive.) It's going to be this way until Wed or Thu of next week. I'm depressed, as this area usually has mild winters. Nothing like this has happened here since 1994.

Partly sunny and it got to 81F here today. T-storms tonight, followed by sunny with highs in the low 70's tomorrow, which pretty much describes the forecast for the rest of the week, warming up to the low 80's late in the week. A relief, after all that unusually cold weather we had. I turned the heat off yesterday morning and have not turned it back on.

Except for the hard freeze in Jan, winter has been notable by its absence here. Highs ranging from upper-60s to lower-80s, lows in the 50s and occasional 40s. Very mild, not complaining.

Except for the last four days this wet season has been noted for the absence of rain. Normally we would have about 400mm by now instead of 148mm.
