Types of lens for flight goggles

Here we can see two Allied aviators with different flight googles, but both with solar lens.

I'm wondering how common those solar lens goggle models were, because at least popularily we have the impression that the googles were in the majority with neutral lens.

I have seen a pair of RAF goggles that had a dark lense that pivoted down when needed. Just had a good google but cant find a picture.

Interesting. That could be a vital piece of equipment if the enemy attacks you coming from the sun.
