Hi

tamy are saying use AS7 which is a spray can, but don't seen to do the same colour in small bottles?

Revell no 43

any suggestions on best colour to use on a WW11 Thunderbolt welcome

There's a colour in the Humbrol enamel range which is close, although a touch light, but it's so long since I used it, I've forgotten the number! I used to darken it slightly, but normally I just use Grey No..27, with white added, until it looks 'right'. I always make it lighter than actual Neutral Grey, to allow for the scale effect. Sorry this isn't much help - I'm still feeling rough!

Revell 43 is actually Revell 32143 medium grey which is FS 36365

(that came from this link) Revell colour chart

In other paint colors :

Tamiya Xf19 Sky Grey
LifeColor UA26 (Light Compass Ghost Grey)
Polly Scale 505375 (Light Ghost Grey)
Humbrol 127 US Ghost Grey

from here: The Ultimate Model Paint Conversion Chart

I hae not checked those against the revell color via color chips.

But that FS number doesn't match the colors my research pointed to:

from left to right: FS36270 Dark grey; FS36173 Neutral grey 43-battle grey; ANA 603 FS36118 Dark grey
and to the far right is the color chip for Revell 32143

Looking at the chip for the Revell paint, I'd say that's pretty close. The Humbrol Ghost Grey is the one I was trying to think of. Basically, choose your paint, and compare to available colour pics, allowing for scale. As a rule of thumb, the smaller the scale, the lighter the shade - in moderation!
