How many millions will it cost to replace every DD sign in the US?

How many millions will it cost to replace all the letterheads?

How many millions will it cost to replace all the staff business cards.?

Etc

Etc

Etc

So much for fiscal responsibility.

"Cost concerns over Pentagon overhaul
Renaming the department could cost billions, with the need to update signage, stationery, emblems and plaques across hundreds of Pentagon agencies and bases worldwide. Critics warn this could undermine Trump's own efforts to cut military spending and waste. Still, the rebrand fits Trump's push to overhaul the post-World War II national security system created under Truman. He has already slashed the National Security Council and cut several Pentagon agencies."

Microsoft has hijacked my computer. It's been "updating" for 2 1/2 hours so far, is at 19% complete, but there's a message at the bottom of the screen that says "Your computer will restart several times."

Ha, had my DL suspended yesterday!!!!!!! LMAO
Second year they didn't acknowledge my Eye exam results.
Now I gotta go to Roads and Prove the results exist...................

Last update wiped out Edge. Had to switch to Chrome. Pretty stupid MS!

There are several browsers available where you own your searches and they are better than Chrome because most (all?) include full automatic ad blocking which speeds your browsing significantly.

Re that update - Yeah. I went back to Windoze7 after the windoze 10 "anniversary" auto update did the format D to Z trick in 2016 so this box is now almost 10 years old and getting slow due to Windoze bloat. Win7 Enterprize is slower to bloat than the other versions but it still happens.

Note that Windows did the same format D to Z trick with the "Creators Update" in 2017 as this Windows help page shows. (attached)

I did not lose any cloud drives (I do not use them as the nbn here is too unreliable) but I had nine drives with a RAID 1 setup for the 8 data drives and lost everything that was not on the C drive. Fortunately I had not junked the old computer so could recover all except one pair of discs where I had stupidly moved instead of copied from the old box. Next time I will physically disconnect the four "backup" drives before I begin the process so that I still have all the data available.

My next computer will be an Apple mini or studio plus a small server to get the required disc space. Unfortunately according to the Bundaberg Apple agent the Apple boxes only go to 2TB and they expect you to use the cloud which is never going to happen for me. I planned on having it up and running by now but working out the best options is taking longer than I expected. Probably end up with a Linux RAID server.

No - wonderful Microsoft updates that sexually distress your computer.

On my current computer my internal hard drives are assigned the letters C: thru K: by Microsoft. The seldom used DVD drive is B: C contains windoze and programs and nothing else. D thru G are data drives where I keep all my files. H thru K are automated duplicates of D thru G so that if any of the D>K drives crash I do not lose any info and can fit another drive to replace the crashed one and be up and running in a short time. It does mean owning a spare drive the same make and model as the other 8 but it is worth having. I also have a (not connected) clone of the C drive so that if it crashes I can pull the C and replace it with the clone and be back up running in ten minutes. That said in ten years I have not had a hard disc failure YET but I know of plenty of others who have had one or more crash. Most were new drives that crashed within the first few weeks.

I recently got the M4 mini and use an external drive with it from the older Intel mini (2014 model so it is significantly
slower than the new one). Next add on will be an external SSD if ever needed. So far no real problems, except wondering sometimes
why something didn't seem to work and then realising it happened so much faster I didn't get time to notice it.

I can now make several billion mistakes more per second than previously possible.

Had the same thing happen on a Dell laptop I had to reload Windows on. Automatic updates got to the newest "upgrade" and it hung forever. Finally had to just power off the laptop and back on again. Did the same thing next time around. Finally determined it was a Beta update it was trying to download and it had some issues. This was an August 2025 update, so I just turned off automatic updates and told the used to turn them back on in a few weeks and see if they would finally load.

Had a desktop at work that started acting really strange. Called the help desk and had them remote in. Thought the guy on the other end of the phone was having a stroke with all the noise coming from him. He finally said to put a note on the display to not turn the computer off until it showed a log in screen. About an hour before the end of shift, the next day, it finally came up. Someone using that computer had managed to get to some ip address that they never should of and there were tens of thousands of virii on the drives...

I was making a cup of instant coffee and as soon as I added the water there was a loud crack and water everywhere. These 440ml coffee cups are like hens teeth and now I only have 11. It took two years to find a replacement after I drop tested one. Hopefully not as long this time.
