I was really P.Oed when my Onkyo 6 disk CD/DVD player quit this week. It would not load the disks and I assumed that it was due to a bad belt or something associated with moving the disks from the turntable to the play position. So I opened it up and found that the disks were getting to the play position just fine; it just will not read them. So it is probably the actual laser emitter and thus unfixable for any reasonable price. I was disgusted with that POS unit but in the process of opening it up found that it was manufactured in 2005. I was guessing I bought it at least 10 years later than that. So at over 20 years old I guess that is not so bad. Found a used one missing the remote control on ebay and bought that. Since I have the remote from the old one that should work.

Funny how 20 years can just slide on by.....
 
Truck decided that I don't need 4th gear yesterday..... Got to go pick up a rent car after lunch... Will visit shop in the morning and discuss the options. I'm hoping it's just a dirty filter and not needing an overhaul. If it's got to be torn down, will see about ordering a reman and simply swapping for now. Another couple of kilobucks that wasn't planned for .

I hear you. Dumped another $700 into the Fusion to start the new year, after dropping $1800 on it last fall.
 
Went to pick up rent car and they couldn't issue it as the system had closed their office for the day already....GRRRRRRRRR...What a way to start the year.....burn a day of vacation on the first day back after a holiday 'cause I can't get there. 🤬

If you do feel one of your fingers "catching" when opening up the finger, have it fixed as soon as practicable. (No need to call an ambulance.) I did't do this in the one I'm grappling with now and it resulted in some "fraying" of the tendon which had to be carved-on and makes recovery longer and more painful. If you get it fixed pretty quick, the sugery is a piece of cake. They just open up the base sheath so that the "hump" on the tendon can pass through, and don't ever touch the flexor tendon. This sheath at the base of the finger (in the upper part of the palm) is not very useful, anyway and the opening of that sheath only means you can't bend your finger curved backwards quite as far as you could before, something humans seldom do, anyway. (It's probably a relic of our tree-climbing days, IMO, but the two sheaths up in your "knuckles" are very important for hand movement.) Bandage for 3 days, then "big-ass band aid" for about another week, and then you are good to go. (Well, the stiches come out about 3 weeks after but your finger will be fine.) Surgery from "anesthesia to wake up afterwards" usually takes 30-45min. I let this one go on for about a year and now I am SORRY.

Late last year I had a discussion on a forum regarding preparation of resin kits. After a lot of discussion about what's best to wash the parts in, I suggested that I've NEVER washed resin parts before painting and have never had any issues in 40-odd years of making resin kits.

So fast-forward to January 1st and I was starting the New Year with a new kit and wondered if washing the parts might give me a better paint finish. So I did just that - washed in washing-up liquid, rinsed with clean water, dried thoroughly, gave the main parts a good flatten with 1000-grade Micro Mesh, cleaned the parts again and gave them a day to dry off.

Well having applied colour 1 it was time to apply some masking and go for colour 2. All good so far; masking using the usual kabuki tape and acrylic paints I always use.

Except that this time when I removed the masking, I managed to pull off some areas of paint, right back down to bare resin!!! That NEVER happens!!!! So cleaning the kit seems to have given me an issue I never had before - the moral being don't bother cleaning resin parts!

Fortunately before my mojo completely failed, I managed to sand the areas back smooth, reapplied all the primer, colour 1 and colour 2 coats and I'm now in a "What Made You Happy Today?" kind of place.
