Well, I used a handheld compass to run some tests on my newly degaussed windshield frame. I have concluded:

1. The degaussing worked, or.
2. The degaussing did not work but the hand held compass is not affected by the windshield frame, or
3. The frame did not need degaussing in the first place.
4. I did not make the problem any better but not any worse, either.
5. In any case, the aircraft compass still reads wildly wrong as in reading Due East when the airplane is pointed more or less North.
6. I need to find a book newer than the 1943 vintage one I have when it comes to adjusting more modern compasses.
7. I'd better stick to following roads.

Actually, my compass was center, below the art. horizon.

The fuel gauge was to the right...

Flew my airplane today. It is its 80th Birthday.

Back in the 60's I recall being stunned when my Dad told me his Chevy pickup was built in 1946. I had thought it was from the early 50's. Now, 60 years later I am flying an airplane built that same year.

Early one morning soon after sunrise I turned final and announced my position right after a King Air twin pilot announced he was taxiing out. He asked 'What's that? An Ercoupe?"
I replied, "Yep, an Ercoupe."

He responded "How much fun is that!"

Back in 1991 When I lived in Alexandria, VA, I took my Ercoupe to have an altitude encoder installed at a local airport (FAA mandated installation). A Beech King Air flew in, carrying a group of businessmen who were meeting with the USN at Indian Head Naval Station. I pushed my Ercoupe back away from the building and went in to write a check for the bill. When I came out those businessmen were standing around the front of my airplane, talking about it, ignoring the big King Air they had arrived in.

I said to myself, "Just the avionics in that King Air costs far more than my whole airplane did, but those guys don't care about that fancy machine. Airplanes will always be more interesting than office equipment."

Back in the day, my buddy and I hung at the airport. One day we began a conversation with a guy we had often seen in his Ercoupe. When my buddy got around to talking tickets and time, the Ercoupe pilot told us he bought the plane to learn to fly and had 127 hours with a student cert. My buddy, an instructor, asked why he didn't get his private. The answer was he just wanted to go flying on perfect days and didn't want to take up a passenger.

We are giving up take-out for Lent, so today we cleaned out our cupboards to see just what we have to make meals with over the next six weeks. I'm still scratching my head over some of the things we found in there.
Got rid of a ton of mis-matched plastic containers, too.

Well, I woke up this morning firmly convinced that it was Wednesday the 11th of March. I was even quite cross with my watch for saying it was Tuesday the 10th, since I had just adjusted it for DST and now here it was all 'effed up. So I reset it; it now it says Tuesday the 11th, which is as close as I could get it.

And I was mystified as to why I had not recorded any vitamins and supplements taken on the 10th on my calendar. That gave me the first clue that the timestream was amiss.

Last night I was still at the airport after midnight, helping my friend with a Cessna 172, doing rewiring and installation of new pitot tube lines. So I had actual memory on doing things on the 10th, so to speak, and therefore it had to be the 11th this morning.

Now to figure out how to reset my watch again.

I lost a job because of that, many years ago.
In the evenings I was delivering pizzas, but I was also minding a store during the overnight hours.
Couldn't get it through my head that I went to bed one day and woke up the next.
Missed a couple of shifts at the pizza place and that was all she wrote.
No biggee, it was a part-time job.
