We are working 2 1/2 days a week next two weeks. The boss has noted that nobody wants to come in on Friday after a holiday, and the ones that say they do sneak out at lunch and don't come back til Monday anyway.

School is resting for two weeks beginning this weekend. Three of the kids all went straight to a nap. My son straight to his racing game. Me here, and then a drink, and a cigar.

The post "Christmas time in Auschwitz" from V2 reminded me of an old friend, Lloyd W. who survived the Batan Death march and captivity in Japan until released in 1945. He didn't speak of the time, but often in his later years, he would comment on something. One Christmas he told of his saddest Christmas. In 1944, Japan had a long winter with heavy snow and when they awoke Christmas morning, the snow had collapsed the roof of the Canadian barracks leaving most of them dead. Although his telling us of this was sad, he said those who survived the war looked at the present time cheerfully, because of the sacrifices of all.

The last two years have been a train wreck health wise for the family. The one good thing was watching the great grandson run around the house on Christmas morning.

A few years ago, I diligently backed up files from my PC to an external hard drive. The files included all my dissertation research, family history stuff, and 20+ years of Buffalo research. About a year ago, I tried to upload the files to my new Mac…and it failed, HARD. No data was visible on the external hard drive.
Our family is all visiting for Christmas and so I asked my eldest son if he could take a look at it. He was able to find all the data, restore the external hard drive, and now I'm copying successfully onto my Mac.
I am one HAPPY womble!!!!

I lost so much data when win10 did its format all drives except C: trick I went back to my old win7 RAID setup. I am transitioning to a RAID server with 2 x 22tb drives and Zorin linux as it has a Win7 clone desktop and can load almost all the software I use, something win11 can not do

My replacement iMac arrived. Been busy, so haven't even taken it out of the box. I will get to it eventually.

I was considering the Apple Studio plus the server but you cannot permanently lock out AI on Apple as every update reactivates it so I ended up going Linux on a NUC box. Surprisingly small learning curve with Zorin but much wider with the other three Linux I trialed. Unlike most Linux they have windows/mac style "one click" program/app installation for all the basics and one of the specialist programs I use. The specialist program is native Linux but I could not make it work on the other three OS's where you must find and load all the dependencies yourself. @#$%^& painful.
Still spec'ing the NUC box - used a cheap 10 year old one to see how it works for me. I want to future proof so I want at least 32Gb RAM with ability to upgrade. One off the shelf one has 96GB but low end graphics card.

A friend's wife fell on Friday, and EMT's suspected a broken hip. She's 74 and not in real bad shape, but has has had a lot of knee problems in the last couple of years. Got over and talked to her husband yesterday and she only tore some muscles, ligaments and tendons. Going to be hobbling pretty bad for the next few months as she recovers. Thankful it wasn't a hip. Dad broke the ball off one of his at 61 years old, and it took him about 6 months to fully recover.

This video. My dogs are large (one is over 60kg) so I hope I never end up potentially on one of these videos. She has not tried doing a runner since she was a pup so hopefully I am safe.

The replacement iMac is wonderful. Currently removing all files on the old one to the small WD drive I have. The small one has 4 TB while the emergency WD drive has 10 TB.
Nice pick. I had a spare 27" monitor so I got the M4 Mac Mini which is also great and much quicker than the old I5 Mac mini (still going).
The screen on the iMac is far superior to the monitor I have but I won't hold that against you.
