It was Episode IV when released in the theater I went to. During that summer, my parents would drop me off at the matinee and pick me up after two or three run throughs.
The world was a different place.

It's an amazing movie my dad introduced me to. He was a big John Wayne fan and this movie is incredible. I agree with you 100% in your your interpretation of the movie with the music and the theme in the background and everything even with the models of the ships and how they were put together yes it's a suspension of belief but still it's an incredible movieIn Harm's Way (1965). Every time I see it, I remember why I watch it like I do. All star cast, terrific music, and decent storyline. It's even older than me

When Star Wars first came out in 1977 it was just Star Wars not number four or anything like that just Star Wars.
Wasn't the script at the start still "Episode IV"?

The one I saw in 1977 was Episode IV. I had the program. We thought it was weird. What happened to the first three?

We're referring to the monologue at the beginning, not the title of the movie (although you are correct about that). It starts "Episode IV:"
Some say it wasn't there back in 1977, but I remember seeing it then.

At the risk of cliche, it wasn't as good as the book. There were some deviations and some additions, neither of which I felt were necessary but then again, they didn't ruin it. Largely followed the book. I still enjoyed but am glad I read the book first. It would be interesting to get the perspective of someone who hasn't read the book.

I haven't. I found almost the same review as yours with the suggestion, read the book first or listen to the audio-book. I'll see if I get the book or the movie first, but let's not forget: movies are not 100% adaptations (unless they explicitly are).
