Thought it might be time to get this falcon finished , gota do the weathering on it and try finish it before the next group build . Its the 1/72 bandai kit , beautiful kit to put together .
First venture out with the airbrush in 2 years... 2 Hasegawa 1:72 TA-4J Skyhawks for the kids.
Not a great success, with more issues than progress. Need to work out if it's the acrylic paints, the airbrush itself, or just me. Never had so many problems with the enamels.
Although some of the members know I build controlline models, I thought I would bore you with a mystery I may have solved.
About four years ago an older modeller contacted our club wanting to sell out his years of stuff. I bought most of his things and began to finish many of his partially built planes and repair the others as needed. Two weeks ago, needing a short piece of balsa, I went through his scrap box and discovered parts of an unbuilt kit. Laying out the parts I realised I had all formers, both fuselage sides and other parts never separated from the die cut balsa sheets, including the wing ribs. While it was an unusual construction and design, it appeared a plane could be built, as it was well engineered. Something not seen before was tabs on the former sides which matched holes die cut into the fuselage sides. After glueing fuselage and wing and looking to mount an engine, it was obvious the requirement was for a narrow fitting engine that needed good enough power to fly a 36 inch span plane. Turned out it was perfect for a popular Ohlsson & Rice engine from the early 1950s. The mystery of what kit it was may have been solved looking through ads in my old model mags. After several days of nastalgia, the closest I can find to the midwing, slab side plane for an O & R is shown below, found in April 1948 Model Airplane News
I should say the wing tips are my own idea and the swept fin, rudder, elevators and stabalizer were found in his scrap box and while for a different kit, they will be the tail feathers.
