WWII AIRCRAFT RANKED BY SPEED

Not sure where they get their numbers from (on the real aircraft), the He280 was faster than any piston fighter, but it's max. speed was in the low 500's and the He162 was just a bit faster than the Me262 (both topped out in the 560's at altitude).

Couldn't see a Meteor IV, which actually existed and was the first aircraft to hold a world airspeed record over 600mph. There's probably a case for Vampire too, unless I missed it amongst all the fictional types.

I notice the site has a similar speed listing for "X-Planes" so I'm not sure why they repeated some of the 46Lufters again?

My knowledge on German projects is limited but there would've been faster projected speeds on the drawing office boards than that darty thingy? That Coal Sniffing Lippisch P.13 for example? >1,000 mph...

I note that all the UK WW2 Jets are missing from the table.

Honestly, the problem with charts like these: They're too simplistic.

They fail to reflect altitude on speed.

Or the actual speed rated for a particular type (meaning real aircraft, not fantasy drawings) like the He280 for example - it was fast for it's time, but max. speed was about 501 mph not 560 or whatever they had listed.
