Some never before seen pics from WW II

Earlier this week my cousin sent me my Uncle Clare's flight log which I will cover at some point in the future. Also included were some photos taken by my Uncle Keith from his time stationed at various places around Canada and Europe while with 437 Squadron. Although they may not be the best...

    Which Republic?

Which Republic aircraft is this and what time period was it from? Could it really fly with all those bombs?

    441 CF-104

Hey guys, long time no see! I got my dad the Italeri 1/32 F-104, and he'd like to do it as 441 aircraft. That being said, he'd like to do it in NMF, as opposed to the later camo finishes. I've been unable to nail down any specific aircraft as part of 441 during the time period where they were...

Me and my mate Mick managed to get to the RAF Museum, Cosford yesterday, to take advantage of the open days of the Sir Michael Beetham Conservation Center, open (free, to Museum Members, and to the general public for a £5 donation), for three hours per day, for one week only. Last year, we were...

Luftwaffe after BoB: strategy, tactics, tecnology?

Similar to the RAF thread: what steps need to be undertaken by the LW in order to best it's opponents in the up coming years? The time frame is the same, starts in Autumn of '40, ends before '44 starts.

'Other' countries adopt 8 LMG battery: pros cons

The Hawker Hurricane introduced a, for the time, a powerful armament, that consisted of eight .303 machine guns. Fast firing and tightly packed (in the Hurry), they were able to harm even the heaviest bombers of the time, let alone a fighter-type A/C. The other benefit was a light weight of the...

    2014 Foto Fest MK. III

We will start this thread off with what I am told was a static Battle of Britain movie participant. This airframe is currently in the annex building, which in typical Canadian fashion requires a separate admission fee from the Museum admission fee which is on top of paying to park. The museum...

    Erich Hartmann's Bf 109 G-6, callsign "Karaya 1"

Isn't that a beautiful plane? I like the German winter camouflage schemes, there's something very pretty about them. This particular plane was used by famous Luftwaffe ace Erich Hartmann, the highest scoring fighter ace of all time (352 confirmed kills), on the Eastern Front. It's a skin made...

RAF after BoB: mid-term strategy, tactics technology?

A discussion about what the RAF should have pursued after th BoB. Eg. what at is the best way to hit Axis, how to prepare best for very possible LW atacks in next year, what about N. Africa and Malta, what to do once Japan takes the French Indochina? Once Germany turns East, how to capitalize on...

My trip to the Lone Star Flight Museum

During my last trip back to the states, my wife and I took some time for a few days on the beach in Galveston and since I hadn't been to the Lone Star flight museum in a number of years, I took advantage of our time there to drop by. They have done some very nice work since hurricane Ike...

Bill (N4521U) Off Line for a While

Who would get to 40,000 feet first?

I would look up climb rates on Wiki but we know how inaccurate Wiki can be. So it's a race to 40,000 feet. The only rule is the plane has to be war time production (no jets), it takes off, hits the throttle and climbs, full power.

Low level interceptors - Spitfire XII vs Typhoon

A former member of this site PM'd me with some comments about the La-7 thread. He was of the opinion that some of the Hawker products were better low down performers than the La-7, though I pointed out that they had 500hp+ more power. Anyway, We got around to comparing the low down...

    Time to make formations?

Hi, Second research question: how long does it take a group of warbirds to get into a strike formation? If a carrier launches a group of Avengers or Kates, how long does it take that group of planes to form up and head out on a strike? How does this time vary depending on the number of...
