Thanks guys, got the exhaust on need to do a little more weathering.

For 'dark' exhaust stains, I use a ladies eye brow pencil (prefered), or alternatively, a 'Chinagraph' pencil, in either black or brown. Draw in the line of the stain lightly, then smudge with a finger tip. It can be 'built up' as required, and looks very realistic.
 
Doesn't look too bad though it seems to go a little high on the fuselage. I've bot airbrushed the exhaust stain (firs brown, then black in the center) but have also used pastels r even ground up pencil graphite applied with an old brush. Th later approach allows you to build up the stain slowly and is quite forgiving.
