Wow, doing two of them! Don't know what the cockpit looks like in those kits but the cockpit in later Jugs starting with the D-30 had almost compleatly different cockpits with a non corrugated floor and a compleatly redesigned control panel

I forget you the "jug man " Glenn may need to correlate some decal options if I am wrong on my selection. ;)

Well lets move onto some modelling and questions.I have started on the IP using the Eduard copit kit so I had to sand down the IP that is done w/gunsight platforms added. The question I have is that it appears the D models were built either at the Farmingdale or Evansville plant thus Republic built hence Dark Gull Green for the pit?

As far as I know all P-47 cockpits were painted in the darker green color (I think it was called bronze green) except those built by Curtiss which were cromite green and those were all Razorbacks that did not see combat. I have many color cockpit pictures on my computer at home and will post them tonight.

Kevin, because I was building a D-30 cockpit most of the pictures I have are from D-30 or later models and would not be right for the D-28 you are building as most of the interior changed with the D-30. I do have a couple of shots of the Curtiss "G" in the Air Force Museum and a razorback (both painted in cromite green) that would have a similar cockpit and also some period B/W shots from manuals.
PM me with an email if you want me to send them to you. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

The RA and RE are Republic built and the markings are for Republic a/c it seems seeing Curtiss did none but the G's it looks like from here...I have a couple of books Glenn that should get me through I think.Thks for the offer and I may still take you up on it ;)

OH! and my LHS has gone to crap since new owners have taken over all the plastic kits have gone to 1/3 or less of the old inventory and nothing new coming in.The new craze has taken hold R/C everything times are a changing fellas.I have been buying from him some over the last 1 1/2 years even if I really did not need it trying to show support but I just cannot anymore.I guess it will be all internet or travel to Mobile.

And I need to get back to my cockpit. All this Thunderbolt talk has me thinking about it again. Went down in the basement last night and took the sheet off it to see what my next move would be. Might tinker around with it a bit this weekend.

Got me going too - I have another six to build, in 1/48th scale - three razorbacks, and three bubbletops, all planned and researched.
And yes, the cockpit was Bronze Green, although the upper bulkhead and sides under the canopy on the razors appears to be Interior Green, with the seat often Medium Green.
