Thanks Andy. For an impartial view from someone who knows absolutely nothing about aircraft colours, I asked the wife her opinion and she also came up with the over-spray option so now I just have to pull it off

OK, they are sorta there. For the two piece wheel well part, I kinda lined it up and added glue. After it set for a bit and put it into its location and wiggled it about until it all slotted together. This worked surprisingly well and only took a few seconds.

The fuselage has one, if you want to call it that. Very frustrating trying to insert the cockpit and then put the halves together to make sure everything lined up
