Thanks very much chaps !

I don't know if I'll get much more done before next week, as I'm preparing for the trip to Duxford on the weekend, sorting the van and other kit, but I might be able to at least get the other engine cowling sorted, and maybe do the work on the intake trunking on both engines before I go.
More pics if, or when, I get something done.

Thanks Hugh.
I'm hoping to get the other engine cowling / intake done tonight, given all the prep for Duxford has been completed. If not, then it'll be when I get back, on Monday night.

The weekend visit to the airshow at Duxford has set me back by four days, but I've caught up a little tonight, by filling the gaps between the carb intake trunking and the intake itself, using 'Milliput' moulded to the basic shape. Once fully set, this will be carved and sanded to the final shape, and seaed with a thin coat of primer. The joint at the nose has also had further attention, as have the joints around the cockpit canopy
Work can then start on the cowling flaps, and when these are done and fitted, and the fuel dump pipes added to the rear of the nacelles, the wings can be fitted to the fuselage, followed by the tail fins, and the model will be virtually ready for the first stage of painting.
All being well, I might reach that stage by the end of the coming weekend, although I'll lose all day Friday, and most of Saturday, as I'll be back in hospital for the day on Friday, for the second infusion of the new meds, which make one very tired, and I'm supposed to rest for 24 hours after the infusion, which, from experience of the first dose, I know will involve missing most of Saturday, as I'll be sleeping !
Pics below show the fuselage joints and the carb intakes before filling, and after, awaiting sanding.

Thanks chaps.
Got the carb intakes sanded to shape, and working on the cowl flaps - might have some pics later tonight.
BUT !
I caught one of the landing lamp lenses with my hand whilst sanding, and it's 'pinged' into the abyss somewhere !
I know which area it landed in, but can't find it, so I'll have to rob one from the B-25J kit, and sort out how to make one for that model when I get to it.

I'm sure you'll find the lamp... during a future build. Other than that minor setback, the Mitchell is moving along nicely!

Thanks very much, John, Paul and Hugh. I'll look for that lens another time - it's in the domain of spiders !

The carb intakes have been sanded, and the first set of cowl flaps have been made and fitted. I tried using thin aluminium, cut from some old litho plates, but I had problems trying to attach them, using CA adhesive, as they had to be held too long in order for the glue to set enough to let go !
So I used thin plastic card instead, which held just enough to allow each flap to be left until the glue was almost fully set, when they could be adjusted for angle and overall position against the cowling.

PIC 1. A thin strip of plastic was attached to the rear of the gap in each nacelle, in order to mask any 'see through' effect under the flaps, when fitted.
PIC 2. The gap was then painted matt black, which is still drying in the photo.
PIC 3. The individual flaps were then fitted, a long and tedious process, and allowed to set after basic adjustment. They are just roughly positioned in this shot, and have since been adjusted to the desired angles.

I had intended to fit flap actuator rods, but after a trial fit I found that these would have been very short, and hardly worth the effort, and wouldn't be seen anyway, so I saved some time and effort and abandoned that plan !
As I'm in hospital again tomorrow, for the second infusion of the new meds, I probably won't get any more done now util some time on Saturday, at the earliest, but if the second set of cowl flaps go as well as the first, I should be able to make some decent progress, and might even get to the first stage of painting by the end of the weekend.
Whether I get the model finished by the extended deadline is another matter, as I still have to make the entrance hatch doors and integral ladders, and scratch-build the bulk of the dorsal turret, as well as do some work on the undercarriage and the wheels 'borrowed' from the B-25J kit, but it may just be possible.
Thanks again for the continued interest, and I'll be back as soon as I recover from the drowsiness following the second meds infusion.
