Hoping to get the 'tweaks' done to the upper surface paintwork today, then get the clear coat on. The de-icer 'boots' will be done after the matt clear coat.

I wasn't too happy with the fading on the upper surfaces - although it looked very green in the photos, it was actually more of a lightened OD, but I think it should have a more brownish tinge, especially each side of the nacelles, where the exhausts bleached the paintwork, then the exhaust staining on top of that.
Consequently, I'm working on making it better, and although subtle, it will be more noticeable when done, rather like the Dutch Mitchell seen below, but perhaps not quite as pronounced.

Yes, she does Andy. I was quite surprised when it banked around, and the natural weathering was visible.
The exhausts on this machine were the later, modified type, with a single exhaust pipe at the mid point of the side of the cowling, so there's no staining on top of the wing, as there would be on my subject, which had the individual 'S' type stacks.

Still working on the fading, a bit at a time. Might have some pics later tonight.

This is how it looks so far.
Apologies for the poor pics - the mixture of Tungsten and incandescent light has fooled the camera sensor, giving a green cast.
The 'faded' areas on the wings are more of a light brown/olive shade. The 'painted over' US insignia was done with satin paint, hence the strange sheen and uneven appearance - this will even out once the clear coats are applied.
Exhaust staining will be added to the 'bleached' areas once the matt clear coat has been applied, and some further weathering and light paint chipping added also.
I'll try to get some better pics in daylight tomorrow, if we get any daylight - it's been persisting down for the past week here, with dull skies.
Next step, after some light panel line work, is to apply a couple of coats of Humbrol 'Clear', then get the decals on.

I've decided it'll be better to do the de-icer 'boots' before the gloss coat after all, so that's next, plus the few panel lines and a bit of retouching.

That cold came back with a vengeance, so I haven't got as far as I'd intended. I have, however, got the de-icer boots painted, and just need to tidy up those on the fins. But my matt black paint has gone all tarry, so need to get some more, hopefully tomorrow.

Darned LHS is out of matt black paint until Thursday, when the delivery arrives - I'll just have to thin the existing paint, which might just get me through the small amount needed for now.
