Lt(jg). Karl Leuffen was taxing forward in VA-36 Roadrunners A-4C Skyhawk BuNo 147828, AE-513, and lost his brakes. His wing tanks caught in the safety nets and the nets held the weight of the plane. USS America, 1967 Mediterranean cruise.

Literally speaking, his life is dependent on hair, as we say in Persian!

This photo left me with 2 questions:

1- Are modern ejection seats able to work in same situation? I know they can work on 0/0 situation, but that's when the plane is horizontal, not vertical. At least on paper, is this "vertical ejection" doable with recent technologies available?

2- IRL, in a situation like this, if things start to get worse, for example, being attacked, is pilot allowed to leave the plane, by any means necessary? Like diving to water or climb the plane?

Reason for loss:
Took off at 01.45 hrs from the R.A.F. base in Pocklington, Yorkshire. Part of a 112 aircraft raid on Frankfurt, Germany. The force was made up with 48 Halifaxes, 27 Lancasters, 22 Stirlings, 15 Wellingtons. Weather for the raid was a thick haze and the pathfinders were unable to establish the location of Frankfurt. Most of the bombing fell in country areas south - west of the city, it is possible that a decoy fire was operating.
3 Halifaxes, 1 Lancaster, 1 Stirling and 1 Wellington were lost.
Halifax W7913 was shot down by Uffz. Dieter Erichsen of 2./NJG4 over Resteigne at a height of 4.500 mtrs. at 03.35 hrs. This was the first of his 4 kills until he was shot down and wounded on the 18/19th March 1945 on finals to Gerotzhofen airfield by an 85 squadron Mosquito crewed by Fl/Lt F.D. Winn and F/O T. P Ryan. It is not known if Ofhr. Erichson survived the war.

A question for the old time hotrodders. The third pic down of 13's -- the 55 or 56 Chevy -- Can any one tell why the front spindle, hub and wheel are from a 3/4 ton Chevy pickup?

That was my thought also. Since dirt track is always a counter clockwise turn, it would follow that the right front wheel would have the greatest pressure. Using truck bearings on the right front would give better severe service. Although I had been around dirt track racers in my misspent youth, I have not seen this conversion.
