Argentina really have been a terrible advert for the game. Yes, they have tremendous talent capable of amazing play…but they spend so much time in the dark arts that any beauty is entirely nullified.

The problem with Argentina is the same problem that has plagued England since 1967. They don't play as a team.
They are 10 guys playing behind Messi. You take Messi out of the game and they are just 10 dude looking to Messi to figure it out. It works against most teams, but not when you go up against a great team that plays cohesive as a unit, and has a strong defense.
Look to the final against Germany in 2014 and the 2026 final against Spain today. Perfect examples.

That and VAR are why i don't watch football these days.
Ive watched the world cup as I've been home from work, but it's not been an issue to miss games.

VAR has been terrible, especially at this World Cup. Its almost like they were trying favor certain teams at different times throughout the tournament.

Dump VAR and leave it to the referees. I have never seen soooooooo much extra time added to a halves. During seven years of playing, we never played over five minutes extra. Extra time was always added because we were looking for the ball that was kicked into the bush. And get tougher on the diving. As everyone here knows, you don't go down like you were hit by a truck and then score a goal two minutes later. Just my .08¢

Or at least make VAR a harder ask. Like hockey or baseball, you get 2 challenges and like in hockey, if you're wrong it's a 2 minute penalty. Footy could do something similar like a lost VAR call results in a free kick from a corner of the penalty area or something like that.
Diving/screaming and rolling around like your leg's been amputated with no anesthesia should result in a yellow card AND a 10 minute ejection from the game.

I do like the new baseball challenge system. Yesterday, the ump called a strike that was at least 6" over top of the batters box and Kirk made the right challenge

FIFA doing the obvious and blame it on the media. That's the fashion nowadays, so hardly surprising.
I wonder how many investors are interested in a World Cup without many of the more important football teams. I mean, most of the teams that went to the quarter finals were still UEFA countries. A cup without them would be meaningless I think.

That's the one piece of leverage that UEFA has over FIFA. Many of the world's best players come from UEFA countries. Removing them from the competition will have a huge impact on investors and on fans wanting to attend a rump World Cup.
