I'm guessing off the top of my head it represents an SG unit.

Yes it would, but the band should be White...I tracked this kit down and the markings represent an aircraft in the Med.

A colour photo of DN + FV shows a white band.

Now the Modeller can do whatever takes their fancy...I'm just curious as to why it was done in red...
 
Whats confusing me is the letters. All the units I know had a letter and a number for identification, like "3U" meant ZG 26.....unless its factory fresh and was in the middle of a new paint job when captured by the Allies and a pic was taken for reference.

Did SG units in the Med have a "V" on the cowling?
