The problem with this kind of rhetoric.

In February 2024, the US administration issued a stern warning to Iran, threatening a "swift and severe" response from the international community if Tehran continues to supply ballistic missiles to Russia.

Is that Iran may feel that this is a bluff worth calling. If they believe that the USA might fail to follow up its words and promises in Ukraine, and also threaten to throw smaller NATO countries to the wolves. They may feel that the 'International Community' may well walk away from supporting the USA. This plus the growing isolationism in some areas of the USA would significantly reduce the chances of any meaningful response from anyone.

The article was informative and depressing. The thumbs down is for the content.

And that should make people sit up and think.

The Roman Empire lasted 1,480 years. The British Empire lasted 350 years.

If the bolded part of Gliders post comes true then the American Empire will have lasted just 79 years.

Iran gets even American isolationists agreeing with, uh, international outreach. I agree with you, though, in that Iran will likely call any American warning.

The British Empire lasted 350 years.
If we count English foreign possessions as the beginnings of the British Empire, it's closer seven hundred years. Beginning with England's 1347 capture and two hundred year hold of Calais, followed by the 1556 Tudor conquest of Ireland and the founding of the Plantation of Ulster. I also don't see why the 1997 loss of Hong Kong need be seen as the end of the Empire, as Britain today retains overseas territories in strategic locations, with nearly 300,000 people dependent on Britain for defence. British Overseas Territories. Agreed, it's laughably small.

Agreed, but it makes no difference if you're going to drive your Abrams around in the open without any local air defence.

Losses are going to be taken no matter what. War has that effect. A Challenger has been lost as well but this has to be weighed against
Russian losses which in comparison are massive.

Maybe I should have said

And that should make people sit up and think.

The Romans were the worlds policemen for 1,480 years. The British were the worlds policemen for 350 plus years.

If the bolded part of Gliders post comes true then the Americans will be the worlds policemen for a mere 79 years.
