Seem to forget who invaded whom and that if Russia truly wanted and end to the killing and destruction, they always had the power to do so…by pulling out and stopping the attacks. Simple really. Even a half baked dimwit can see that.
- "Russia wants to do something, they want to stop the savage, barbarism … What's going on over there, soldiers are being killed by the thousands on a weekly basis, it's ridiculous," ;
- "It's a senseless war. It should have never happened.";
- "This could've been settled very easily, just a half-baked negotiator could have settled this years ago without the loss of much land, very little land, without the loss of any lives, without the loss of cities"; or
- That Moscow was "willing to begin to engage in a serious process to determine how quickly, and through what mechanism, can an end be brought to this war".
I'm extremely nervous about the recent turn of events. On the one hand, the US is telling Europe to take over more responsibility for its own defence. On the other hand, the US is excluding European partners from negotiations about the war in Ukraine.
What happens if the US and Russia come up with a deal that neither Kyiv nor European nations can stomach? I can see the US pulling out of NATO if Europe doesn't simply agree to everything that's decided by the US and Russia...and yet we can be pretty certain that Moscow's next step will be retaliation against Europe for "attacking" Russia.
I may just stop paying attention to the news because every time I think I've seen the worst and we've finally hit rock-bottom, the very next headline plummets to an even deeper level in the abyss.
It seems clear to me that Putin is successfully driving a wedge into the Western Alliance, and separating America from it.

I can only second that.I need to shut up now, otherwise I'll say something that gets the thread shut down.
Over the last 3 years I've found his insights and commentaries to be well worth readingWritten directed at Australia but equally relevant for others:

And don't get misled by the headline. Mick Ryan is using political in an objective not partisan manner here.
He has been doing that for decades. Some just refuse to admit it.
...because Putin has found just the US an European patsies to swallow his horseshit.Right, it's just that it is finally bearing fruit.
He must be the luckiest Russian Leader ever. It quite possible that we are seeing a Russian victory snatched from the jaws of defeat.It seems clear to me that Putin is successfully driving a wedge into the Western Alliance, and separating America from it.
