If you have ever seen the Star Trek episode "Balance of Terror", you have seen a synopsis of the "The Enemy Below". Das Boot is 20,000 leagues above.

Das Boot give an account of life in a German sub. Enemy Below is a multi level from the Kurt Jorgensen as the sub commander and Robert Mitchem as the DE commander. South Atlantic. A must see.
-I agree; great movie.
-If you can find it, read the book the movie was based on. Written by Commander Denys Rayner, DSC w/Bar, VRD, RNVR, based on his extensive service during the Battle of the Atlantic.
-Hollywood, of course, had to change the destroyer from RN to USN.
-The book is quite different from the movie: the U-boat captain is nowhere near the semi-sympathetic character played by Curt Jurgens.
-Go to The Enemy Below for a synopsis.

For a Hollywood film its not that bad historically, and its an entertaining film well worth a view

Great cast, good story. Lots of familiar faces you'll recognize - if you're old enough!
most striking inaccuracy in this movie is age of U-boot's captain - in reality for type VII most if not all captains were in the age of 25 at best, for type IX medium age of commander was 30+, and i dont think any of frontline u-boot commander was older than 35...

Agree. Operation Petticoat is probably a far more accurate portrayal of submarine action.

We're talking subs, not Chrysler's, well I guess you could take Christine to the sub races but she'd just get mad a drive off in a huff throwing your submariner out at high speed, just saying.Not Christine?
