With the application of the white winter camo, the W. Nr. could easily have been obscured on the rear fuselage.

Also, I'm not sure there would be much logic in carefully painting around a Werke Nr. when you're slopping on temporary winter camo with a broom or mop. Would there have been a regulation or practical reason to leave the number exposed?

Victory marks, however, would be a matter of pride and carefully preserved in my opinion. But I do also agree with the observation that the narrowness of the patch would make for pretty small victory marks.

Still stumped.
