Back in 2008, me and a mate travelled out to the States to go to the CAF Airsho 2008, down in Midland Texas. This was our first visit to this show and due to Hurricane Ike blowing around, showing off, we didnt know if we were going to be able to travel until the morning we were due to fly out !.

Fortunately, our flights were cleared and we were on the way.

First stop was Houston where we had two days of museums ... a different thread yet to be psoted... before trundling across to Midland. On the way, we saw a signpost to Breckenridge, looked at each other and simultaneously said 'Howard Pardue's stuff'. So as it would have been rude not to, we detoured overe to Breckenridge and spent the aftrenoon at Ezzell Aviation....yet another thread to be posted. Fantastic place and crewed by brilliant people !.

    Finally made it to Midland.

Attendance was down due to the Hurricane but as the arrivals day wore on, more stuff arrived and the ramp began to fill up.

The over-riding memory was of the friendliness of the CAF pilots and groundcrews. All, without fail, quite happy to talk about their charges and show you around and answer your questions. I was astounded when I walked over to the Dauntless and started to chat to her pilot...sorry, I didnt get your name but thanks for your time, really appreciated !.. and he casually askes if I would like to take some shots of the cockpit.

'Errrr, hang on a minute, that means I will have to climb up to do that !'. 'Sure, no problem, get on up and help yourself !'. And the pilot had only shut her down a few minutes earlier !.

Then the ground crew turned up and all work stopped for a few minutes as 'the Limey on the wing' was introduced and the 'Planes history and its relevance was discussed and loads of pics taken. I tell you now, this does not happen here in the UK !!!!. This is the reason I try to fly to the States each year to get my fill.

I took around 3500 pictures during the next few days and enjoyed, no, really enjoyed myself. So much so, I'm trying to figure out how to get back there this year !.

I've attached a slack handfull of shots, in no particular order to this opening bit and will add more later. I havent named any of the A/C (cos you all know what they are !) but just wanted to give a flavour to this event

Very good pics! I was able to see many of the birds at the Wings over Houston show but I need to get out to Midland for this one. Looks like a blast! I hope you are able to make it back again this year.

Nice shots, Gary. The Midland show is one that I haven't been to yet, but know a lot of the planes and folks in your shots. I have been with the SoCal Wing of the CAF for a number of years. The Zero, Bearcat and Hellcat are all based with them at Camarillo.

You need to get out to Chino for one of their shows one year. They are really amazing too.
