Château de Septmonts (Aisne). The country house of the bishops of Soissons, the Château de Septmonts was built over nearly three centuries!

Built in the 13th century, the castle was rebuilt in the 14th; the keep and the square tower date from this period. The Renaissance pavilion was built by Bishop Symphorien de Bullioud, who died there in 1534.

At the end of the 17th century, the bishops ceased to reside there, and the castle was abandoned until its purchase by the painter Jacques Edmond Leman in 1864. Bombed in 1918, it was acquired by the municipality in 1978.

Fortified Church of Alma Vii, Romania Rising from the rolling hills of Transylvania, the Fortified Church of Alma Vii was built in the early 14th century by the local Saxon community as a spiritual and defensive refuge. Originally a simple Gothic hall church, it was significantly reinforced in the 16th century with the addition of a formidable defensive wall and four massive towers positioned at the cardinal points. These towers served dual purposes, acting as granaries for the village during times of peace and as strategic bastions equipped with firing slits during sieges. The complex is unique for its "curtain wall" architecture, which allowed the villagers to withstand Ottoman and Tatar incursions without abandoning their livestock or supplies. Over the centuries, the church remained the heart of the community, but it faced severe neglect in the late 20th century following the mass emigration of the Transylvanian Saxons to Germany. Its fate was transformed in recent years through a major restoration project led by the Mihai Eminescu Trust and supported by international heritage funds, which revitalized the masonry and traditional tile roofing. Today, Alma Vii stands as one of the most authentically restored examples of Saxon heritage in the region, earning a European Heritage Award for its preservation. Visitors can explore the bell tower and the interior gallery, which houses a collection of traditional crafts and historical artifacts. The site remains a powerful symbol of the resilience and communal spirit of the medieval settlers who shaped the cultural landscape of the Sibiu area.

Niedzica Castle is a medieval fortress located in southern Poland, overlooking the Dunajec River and Lake Czorsztyn.
