Once a year in Detling Kent living history groups gather in the largest three day event of its kind.
Period en actors portray everything from ancient Greek to the 20th century
I only went for one day so never got to see every event but talking to many it is obvious that those taking part are extremely informed on there subjects.
Here are a few shots I took. The British based Southern Skirmish Association (US Civil war) has 600 members and will be 40 years old in 2008.

Geesh..... look at all the smoke ! Flames in your own face (3rd pic down),
smoke in your face (8th pic down). I guess they're glad they only do it
once a year.

Good pic's, tho..... thanks, TE...

Charles

These groups only numbered about 100 in each but with a battle field full of several thousand plus cannon just seeing your enemy must have been a night mare. The match lock looks to be about the most dodgy to fire.

Heh, I know a few of those people - the guy in the top picture is the head of La Columna - the Spanish Civil War group and the middle guy in the group behind the anti-tank gun I know very well and is a real Russian who's grandfather was one of the legendary razvedchiki scouts during WWII

Heh, I know a few of those people

Small world Med but then they come from all over the place for this show. I've got a few more shots but I think next year I'll go for couple of days and see the whole thing.

Thanks for the compliments guys I figure if you cant make it the least i can do is put a few snaps so you can get a flavour of the events I go to

Actually, can I C&P the Spanish Civil War picture and send it to them? This afternoon I helped myself to their 'peoples bacon' that was left over from their lunch - eeh it were right krispy and luverly with some bread!
