Thanks Terry. Wasn't going to anything with the I.P.s other than paint them a solid cover, as with the above explanation but I figured, what the heck and gave it a wee dry brush.

Two things odd here: both are the same colour and the one on the right looks lopsided when compared to the coaming but when I went down to check, I measured down from each corner and got 3/8" on both sides
 
Test fitting the innards to the fuselage showed that the right rails had an inward bow, about 3mm in the front and 2mm at the rear. I glued the rails to the cockpit floor and then glued the top of the rails to the fuselage. Bondage required and closed up the fuselage to ensure the correct sit.

In the meantime, looking for the correct colour for this scheme. The book "Royal Canadian Air Force Aircraft Finish and Markings 1947-1968" says that trainers of this period were painted yellow 5-2. This is said to be different than RAF trainer yellow. Anyone ever hear of 5-2 and a paint equivalent?
 
Much obliged my friend. FS 13538 equates to Chrome Yellow, 5-2 looks a slighter less shade. I have a tin of Humbrol 188. According to Urbans, FS 33538 is a close match to RLM 04 which I have a few different acrylic brands. Also looking at mixing Tamiya yellow with either orange or red. Plus there is the possibility of ordering Gunze or some other acrylic brand online but I'm usually faceing a very steep shipping price
 
I think the FS 33358 is a late colour used. The 5-2 paint is the lighter one seen above. I'm not sure but for the paint may be used the one that is closer to FS 33655.

 


Yep.. seems to be that one. However I would wait for Andy's opinion. As I remind myself Canada had the own system for numbering colours before the FS one was introduced. Therefore you may find them numbered as 1-GP-12a/b 5-2 or 1-GP-12c 505-101 for instance.

So .. you need the paint close to the FS33655 which is lighter colour don't you?

In meantime for comparing ...



Please note that the FS13538 is the gloss paint while the FS33538 is the matt one although both are same colour..

The Vallejo bottle seems closer to the 5-2 chip than the FS 33655 chip
 
Hummm.. also found that shot via the net... a little bit too bluish shot I would say, but ..




Also the one.. the caption says "Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association. Restored Harvard aircraft marked as RCAF planes in the in the colours of the BCATP training programme."




Reduced the blue tone a little bit and made brighter ...

Geo, according to the chips in the post 87 the 5-2 and the 505-101 colours were the same. The FS 13538/33538 was the darker paint. However it seems that all of them had the orange tone.

 
Ya...I kinda cut off the bottom when I cropped it. My plan is to use white primer and then the Vallejo. If I don't like it I'll use Tamiya Yellow and mix it with either orange or red. I've seen a mix of 95% - 5% but that may have been for RAF Trainer Yellow
 
Sounds good. But still thinking the Vallejo FS33655 matches better although i may need to be mixed with a drop or two of the red or orange too..

The another test.. what do you think ?...

Allowing for the 'scale effect', I wouldn't worry too much about getting an exact match to the actual colour, rather mix yellow with a touch of red until it looks right !
The pic below was taken at Oostwold last Monday, and may help in getting the shade at least close.
