Not a bad days production today, still bringing the kit into line with the Swiss version.
The open fuselage area around the tail wheel is on the German 109s but the Swiss decided to cover it over, one must assume it was something to do with the mud on damp grassland in the steep valleys.
This other minor mod I deliberated over, it is the flare ejector installation panel. It is my feeling that hols may also be needed in the fuselage central line below the panel door, but I have no way of checking this out. So I've just marked out the panel.
This is how she stands at the moment, still a way's to go before any spraying is done.
Thanks for showing an interest gents and thanks for your kind comments.
This is a very faithful conversion job Vic. I had no idea that there were so many unique features of the Swiss 109's and am learning a lot from your build. Great work!
Nice attention to small details Vic and, like Andy, I'm learning a lot of stuff I had no idea about. Just wondering if there was a holder for the chocolates ...........
No there wasn't but Swiss also used a different prop than the standard VDM one. The Swiss prop was tested in the November of 1941 with J-347. So a pic of the particular kite is needed to find out if she didn't get the Escher-Wyss EW-V6 prop and a new spinner. The new prop was fitted to twelve Bf 109s at least. The EW-6V was mounted to the J-319, J-346, J-347 and 363 (Emils deliverd from Germany ) and to eight licenced made kites of numbers from J-392 to J-399.
Thanks gents and from your info Wojtek it actually answers one of my other questions. The kit has the German prop so now I know which prop boss to use. The question now is which colour scheme should I do, the earlier less noticeable all RLM 65/70 or the more flamboyant later war years with lots of red and white. The latter didn't come in until the Allies started infitrating Swiss airspace sometime in 1943.
The camouflage depends on the time and the external corrections you made. Also a couple of the internal ones depends on the time of the exploatation of the Emils by Swiss. If you decided on the camo with the White&Red markings 1943/1944 almost all the corrections were introduced.
Additonally the green overall camouflage was done with the RLM71 Dunkelgrun but not with RLM 70 Schwarzgrun as you stated above.
And just for posterity ... the VDM and EW-V6 props.
