They are our faithful companions and as you say, they choose us as their servants, it is hard to lose a being that we love so much and who keeps us so much company, you have my full support in this unfortunate time. An animal never replaces the affection that a person gives us, but it is true that the affection they give us is always for the time they have to live and will always go with us.

Sorry to hear about your loss Don. Dawg is now getting up there, almost 18. Not sure how I'm going to react when the moment comes. Even though he is perfectly healthy according to the vet, his doggy Alzheimer's is driving everyone nuts

I thank you all for the hart felt kind words. I know we've most all have lost a dear pet at one post or another.

My wife and I went and adopted a young black cat today we named Rio, (because I have Duran Duran stuck in my head) and she is adapting quite well to her new surroundings.

Ah that she is, just like her predecessor. Both so black that even with the lights out, they are the darker spots.
