I've looked at lots of pics of these things and I've found that views from anything other than head on are deceiving. The supposed extra width of the larger racks coincides with the shallowest depth due to the wing curvature making it appear that they are narrower. To me at least.

Anyway the CMK bombs and racks are on their way. Took a real hit in the price having had to buy it from Squadron. 16 bucks US to ship a 12 dollar item. F!cking robbery. Hannants is way more reasonable but the cost of the part is below the minimum to ship overseas so I would have had to buy more stuff.
 
That Hannants minimum order sucks. We pay the postage and handling for just one item into an envelope don't take much effort with computerised inventories and I'm sure they lose a lot of custom because of it. :lol:
 
Well now, back to the subject at hand. I spent a half hour here and an hour there over the last week or so between other tasks and can update you with a bunch of stuff.

First off, I checked on the problematic fuselage inserts and found that a bit of filling and sanding was needed to hide the seam. it wasn't as bad as on my last build and I'm very close to calling that done but will do one more test shot before I commit.

On the cockpit side, I went through my previous build and remembered that a few mods were needed to depict a proper seatbelt arrangement. First of all, the shoulder belts need to be routed over a bar attached to the back armour rather than directly over the back of the seat so this had to be scratch built:

The resin seat shown earlier, though nice, displays the early Sutton harness with the supplemental shoulder belts which I ignored on my previous build. This time, I decided to get rid of the additional belts and carved them out. I then re-etched the pattern in the back rest and painted the remaining belts and back rest. The back armour was then painted black and new shoulder straps made of Tamiya tape were then threaded behind the bar and painted. I had attached the seat before this and you can see the scars where I cut it off again. It was too high and had to be lowered.

Here's the seat reinstalled and the new tape seat belts attached to the resin buckles. The drape doesn't look quite right but it works for me.

On the other side of the pit, the instrument and side panels were painted and detailed on the sprue.

And here they are installed in the pit. Yeah, Hasegawa forgot the compass. Will I add one this time?

Been trying to find the extensive scale drawings for the Typhoon, to see if the larger bomb rack is shown ( I think it is), but the pack the drawings are in is buried behind a lot of stuff I've had to move around, due to having new windows fitted.
 
Thanks Terry and not a problem. Hopefully you'll find your stuff again some day, and a few Pound notes as well.

Herewith a quick update, as promised. Things are going slow at the moment as I've been mired in trying to organize our Mosquito parts to enable the wing trailing edge assembly to start. In the meantime, the new CMK 1000# bombs and racks arrived and they look quite nice. They had better because, with shipping, these bits cost me almost twice as much as what I paid for the kit. Here are the parts as they are packaged and then removed for a look-see:

Note the delicate bomb stabilizers that I'll need to take care not to break and also the fusing vanes.

Out of interest, below is a comparison of the respective widths of the CMK bomb carrier next to the kit-supplied piece, at right:

As to the fuselage, the halves have been glued together and the gaps that result from the too-small side inserts have been filled with card, a common issue most experience with this kit.

I know from experience that the cockpit and radiator can be fitted with the halves together so their omission is intentional. This will allow for easier seam corrections that I will hopefully get to after the weekend. Thanks and see you soon.
