Still working on pesky seams. While waiting for mud to dry, I got to looking over the model and looked at the slot behind the canopy. Surely (STOP IT!!!) this can't be a void

I search the books and web and there is no clear shot of the area as the canopy is usually open and covering it if there is an over head shot. Finally about an hour ago I found a photo of a P-51 getting rebuilt


Not sure what to make of this. Is this the way its supposed to look or just a cover to keep debris out during the rebuild. If its the former then it won't help me on this build but will help on future Mustang builds
 

As you may notice there was the rail running inside for the sliding of the hood. But it doesn't seem to be finished in the way you posted above.

George, this is the slot on my Airfix kit, I've just held the two halves together for this shot. In my instructions, later in the build a small part is glued inside the rear of the canopy and this had a small lug that fits into the slot acting as a guide or runner when opening the canopy.
