Don't know if you are aware, but it's possible to get the Milliput
almost to the desired final shape,
before it sets.
Apply the putty as you haver done, then smooth it out to the approximate desired profile. Then, with a wet finger tip, start to create the required shape by "moulding", smoothing over, repeating as needed until satisfied. There'll be a lot of "sludge", but just keep wiping this off your finger(s) and the putty, using a damp rag or tissue.
If needed angles can be cut to a roughly correct angle (windscreen, for example ) using a scalpel blade.
Once the putty has fully set, it can then be sanded to the final shape.
Although not a very good example, the pic below shows this technique being used on my B-24 nose turret fairing, and I've also used the technique to make male moulds for heat-form canopies.
