I know exactly what you mean Jim - the B-25 Mitchell also looks 'current' to me, too.
The early B-17 might look slightly 'dated' to us today, but still has a 'modern' look about it. Back when it was first rolled out, it must have looked, then, like an inter-stellar space ship would look like to us, today big, sleek, powerful - especially when standing alongside the other aircraft of the time.
