This is an unusual beast. It was one of two pilot models converted in the summer of 1945 by Firestone in their Burlington, North Carolina Plant.

Unlike the DD tanks that saw service in WW2 it was based on the later M4A2(76)HVSS Sherman (Sherman IIIAY DD III in British terms). Part of an order for 200 planned for production Sept-Dec 1945 and cancelled at the end of the war. Planned for use by Britain in Far East operations.

The photo has to date to postwar judging by the collection of KLM DC-4/6 not to mention the Lockheed Constellation in the middle of the left hand side.
