AH! in the US it is a crime to misuse 911 (999). It's a misdemeanor and you can be fined or have some nice jail time.

And in most states, state agencies can bill you for stupid acts that they have to respond to. Great example is the current case of the Balloon Boys family. They're being billed roughly 30,000 dollars.

In Nevada, stupid people who go into abandoned mines get billed if they get trapped and have to be rescued, or if their car gets stuck in flood water and have to be rescued, or if they get stuck while hiking in certain areas.
